Almanac Super Heroes: an NGO website for solidarity journeys
Almanac Super Heroes is a non-profit organisation that connects social contribution with the sea, culture and the experience of travel. Its aim is to offer free sea holidays to children with Down syndrome and their carers, as well as to women who have experienced abuse. The website presents this mission in an understandable and human way.
Novatempus designed the organisation’s digital presence and SEO structure, giving space to its activities, the annual illustrated edition, the sailing experiences, and the ways to participate or donate. Visitors can learn about the mission, see the events and cruises, become a member or directly support the work.
The visual identity makes use of illustrations created with Midjourney, inspired by the seafaring atmosphere of the stories of Corto Maltese, a character by the cartoonist Hugo Pratt. The site’s narrative connects adventure with solidarity, without losing the practical path to the organisation’s activities.
Industry
Non-profit organisation, social contribution, cultural activities and sailing experiences.
Goal
To promote the mission of Almanac Super Heroes and turn awareness into participation, booking an experience or donating.
Implementation
Website design, responsive presentation, illustrated storytelling with Midjourney, bilingual content structure and SEO.
The project challenge
A non-profit organisation’s website must clearly explain whom it supports, how it works and how visitors can help. In the case of Almanac Super Heroes, the narrative connects free sea holidays for vulnerable groups with events, an annual comic edition and sailing trips whose proceeds support the mission.
The challenge was not to let the social purpose get lost behind the travel imagery. The homepage had to create emotion, but also lead clearly to information about the organisation, the cruises, participation and donation. The content had to work in Greek and English, for local and international audiences.
The brief
- A clear presentation of the social purpose
- Distinct paths for donating, becoming a member and the sailing experience
- An illustrated identity with a coherent seafaring narrative
- Showcasing events and the annual edition
- User-friendly bilingual navigation on desktop and mobile
Desktop UX
On desktop, the Almanac Super Heroes homepage opens with an illustrated seascape and a prominent menu for donating, membership, activities and cruises. The scroll moves from the mission and the annual edition to the events, the trips and the call for support. The video shows the real homepage scrolling in sequence.
Mobile experience
The mobile version of Almanac Super Heroes keeps the illustrated character and the key message of the homepage. The logo, the menu and the first seascape image remain clearly visible on a vertical screen, while the sections continue in a flow that is easy to read on mobile.
Adaptation matters for an organisation that addresses donors, members, participants and travellers. Users can start from the social work and continue to information, contact or support for the mission from any device.
From the sailing experience to supporting the mission
The site presents sailing routes in Crete and the Small Cyclades aboard the Bavaria 50 Cruiser. As the organisation explains, the proceeds from these special cruises go towards funding its activities. In this way the sea experience is linked to a specific social purpose.
In parallel, the pages about events, the annual edition and donation provide different ways to take part. Organising these paths helps visitors understand both the “why” and the “how” of supporting the cause.
Midjourney illustration and inspiration from Corto Maltese
Illustration is a central element of the experience. For Almanac Super Heroes , visuals were created using Midjourney, with reference to the seafaring adventure and the narrative atmosphere reminiscent of the Corto Maltese stories. Corto Maltese is the iconic character created by Hugo Pratt; the reference concerns the artistic inspiration of the project, not an official connection to his work.
The images are not mere decoration. They accompany the story of the organisation, the annual edition created together with the participants, the activities and the invitation to travel. The consistent visual language helps the social message stay recognisable across different sections.
Content and SEO structure
The structure of the website separates the mission, the events, the publication, the cruises and the ways to support. Descriptive titles and internal links help search engines understand the topic of each page, while the Greek and English versions allow the project to address different audiences.
